It would be great to organize the WPL in a multi-city format. I am honored to be able to play in Chinnaswamy stadium, as I am a very big fan of RCB. The chants of RCB will motivate me while playing. All this can be done only in a multi-city format. We can go to places where we have not been before and connect with new audiences.

Devajit Lon Saikia, the joint secretary of the BCCI, had earlier said that the cricket board was considering expanding the tournament to include multiple cities, but he did not provide a deadline.

In regards to the WPL, there are certain plans.. Though it’s early, I can tell that Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, has a vision for the women’s game and has been working hard to grow the WPL and progressively expand its reach throughout the nation, Saikia told The Statesman.

Ten seats were available for the first Women’s Premier League, which could fit five rooms total, Guwahati included. The WPL featured players from every state and zone, but that’s the bigger story. There are many players in the WPL who are from Bengal and the eastern region of the country, regardless of whether Guwahati or Kolkata has a team or gets to host the matches.

“With success, the number of teams will increase from five in the upcoming years.” of the inaugural WPL in 2022, just like the IPL where the number of teams has gone up to 10 from the earlier 8. He continued, “As a result, these cities should also get their own teams in the upcoming years.

Smriti Mandhana discussed the importance of making the right player investments with the WPL auction coming up in a few days. “Many questions have been raised regarding batting and bowling types of of combinations we require for release or retention. Thus, we are eagerly anticipating the WPL auctions and, ideally, we will be able to acquire the players we have our eye on” the spokesperson stated.

When discussing the growth of women’s sports in India, Smriti Mandhana highlighted the notable feats that female athletes have made in recent years.. “Women in India are doing amazing stuff in the last five to ten years not only in women’s cricket but in women’s sport in general” Smriti Mandhana said, emphasizing the cultural shift.

A lot of girls from smaller cities are motivated to pursue their interests by the medals that their country’s female athletes have earned at the most recent Olympics, Commonwealth Games, or Asian Games. Women’s sports in general, in my opinion, ought to be treated differently. By doing so, they can undoubtedly make a lot of money from ticket sales and digital rights.
